Sport and integration: our International Students !

Interviews of two international students

Dear Skemiennes, Dear Skemiens,

In SKEMA, sport is a real vector of integration that allows our international students to integrate more easily within the school each year.

SkemaSports is happy and proud to promote the sport, and today, we highlight our international athletes from the Sophia Campus: Teja Smuc, from Slovenia, and Maks Stern, from Denmark.

SkemaSports: How were your first months in SKEMA?

- Teja: The first months at SKEMA Sophia Antipolis were amazing and filled with opportunities. I’m here as an Erasmus student, and it’s been an unforgettable experience. The campus has such an international vibe, and I’ve met incredible people who share similar interests. Studying in the heart of the French Riviera is also a privilege, surrounded by nature and inspiring professors.

- Maks: I am a full-time student in Copenhagen, and what better way to escape the autumn rains than by doing an Erasmus exchange on the sunny Côte d'Azur? SKEMA Sophia welcomed me with open arms, Mediterranean sunshine, and an amazing network of talented people. It’s been nothing but incredible!

SkemaSports: Why do you practice sports, and what role does it play in your life?

- Maks: Sports have always been my happy place! From running track and field (400m hurdles) for over a decade to swimming in summer and skiing in winter, staying active has been my way of connecting with people, enjoying life, and staying energized. It’s my ultimate feel-good activity!

- Teja: For me, sports are more than just physical activity; they are a way to connect with myself and others. Swimming helps me feel refreshed, just the right amount of physically activated and mentally balanced . Golf was a new challenge that I tried here, and it was fun to try and put focus and precision it requires. Sport is essential in my life because it’s a perfect blend of growth, health, relaxation, and social interaction.

SkemaSports:Did sports help you integrate at SKEMA and enhance your life?

- Teja: Absolutely! Joining swimming classes and trying golf helped me make friends and feel part of the community. The professors were welcoming and inclusive, creating a great atmosphere where everyone felt valued. It was not just about learning a sport but building connections and memories.

- Maks: Absolutely! SKEMA’s sports community is next-level. From day one, I felt part of a vibrant, welcoming community. I’ve made friends across classes, tracks, and years, and these connections go way beyond sports—we’re talking dinners, parties, and amazing shared experiences. So yes, sports at SKEMA have been a huge contributor to the incredible lifestyle I’ve experienced here.

SkemaSports: Do you like sports in SKEMA? (the way it is teaching, the infrastructures, etc…)

- Maks: The professionalism of the coaches and the amazing energy they bring are definitely the best reasons to practice sports at SKEMA. And the facilities? Wow. From the modern Nautipolis pool to Mouratoglou paddle courts, campus gym, tennis courts with sunset views, and even a nearby golf course—it’s a paradise for sports lovers. Weekend hiking trips are another fantastic way to explore the region in a more adventurous way.

- Teja: Yes, I genuinely loved the sports at SKEMA! The swimming classes were perfectly organized, and the instructors had an infectious positive vibe. They made every session engaging and ensured that everyone felt included. Trying golf was such a fun experience, and I appreciate how SKEMA encourages students to explore new activities.

SkemaSports:What would you advise to a foreign student who arrives in SKEMA?

- Teja: I’d say, dive in and make the most of every opportunity! SKEMA offers such a welcoming environment and a chance to meet people from all over the world. Join sports or other activities—they’re not only great for staying active but also for making friends and creating unforgettable memories. Be open-minded, and don’t hesitate to step out of your comfort zone.

- Maks: Go for it and register! With such a wide variety of sports options, you’re guaranteed to find something you’ll enjoy. Great vibes and amazing people are guaranteed!

Thank you, both of you, for sharing your experiences! See you in sport ;)

GREAT SPORT TO ALL OF YOU!
